Kathleen Moore
1949-2007

The Kathleen Moore Memorial Fund is named for a former assistant vice chancellor of administration who died of cancer on Sept. 27, 2007. Moore worked 28 years in the UC system and was still working at the time she was diagnosed with cancer.

Kathleen began her UC career as a budget analyst in the Office of the President. Later she served as the interim associate vice chancellor for Facilities, Operations and Maintenance at UC Davis, among other positions, earning numerous awards for her achievements.

Kathleen Moore Memorial Fund for OOA/ORMP Career Advancement Awards

The Kathleen Moore Memorial Fund has been established to support and promote career advancement and educational enrichment for Office of Administration (OOA) and Office of Resource Management & Planning (ORMP) employees.  The fund has been endowed and the earnings from the endowment will be allocated annually for career advancement need-based awards.

Contributing to the Fund

Contributions to this fund are welcomed. They will be used to grow the endowment and help to support more OOA and ORMP employees in advancing their careers.

You may contribute through a one-time or recurring payroll deduction, or with a check or credit card.

Awardable Activities

This fund is intended to provide scholarships for expenses related to professional development and educational opportunities that are not ordinarily reimbursable per University policy.  Tuition, registration fees, books/supplies, travel, and childcare are examples of such expenses.

Other examples of awardable activities:

  • Development/Training Expenses
    The following kinds of learning opportunities could be funded by the Kathleen Moore Memorial Fund to enhance the employee's skill sets or knowledge and help prepared them for promotional opportunities anywhere within the university workforce:
    • Second language classes, including English as a second language
    • Certification in a specialized skill
    • Computer or specialized technical training such as auto mechanic, equipment operator, etc.
    • Classes to help complete a GED or an associate or bachelor's degree

  • Related Expenses:
    A variety of expenses related to career advancement might be covered by an award from the Kathleen Moore Memorial Fund. For example:
    • Child care so the employee can attend development/training classes
    • Travel to development/training classes/conferences
    • Supplies or equipment in support of skill development such as: books, computer hardware/software, CD/tape player, etc.
    • Wardrobe to attend a conference, a job interview, an internship, etc.

Eligibility

Eligibility is limited to ORMP and OOA employees who:

  • Have career status,
  • Have completed any required probationary period, and
  • Have received a “meeting expectations” or better designation on their most recent performance appraisal.

The Nomination Process

Supervisors may nominate employees for awards or employees may directly submit an application for a career advancement award.

The following information should be provided in support of an award request:

  • A brief narrative (50-200 words) describing the employee’s career advancement plan
  • A description of the course, workshop, or other development opportunity and its relevance to the employee’s career advancement objective
  • The anticipated financial need and the identification of any department commitments in support of the proposed career advancement plan

This information should be submitted to the Vice Chancellor, Administration, 436 Mrak Hall, vcadmin@ucdavis.edu.

The Selection Process

  • Selection Committee
    The Vice Chancellors for Administration and Resource Management & Planning will appoint a committee to select the award recipients.  This committee should include a representative group of supervisors and staff from throughout the two organizations.  The Director of Staff Development and Professional Services is specifically recommended as a committee member.

  • Selection Guidelines
    The following are suggested guidelines to direct the Committee’s selection process.

    Priority will be given to employees who:
    • Propose development activities clearly related to their career advancement objectives
    • Have a record of very good performance and customer service
    • Have a clear need for financial support to pay expenses that are not ordinarily reimbursable per University policy

The vice chancellors for ORMP and OOA, by mutual agreement, may revise the award eligibility and criteria as appropriate to best serve the employees in their organizations.
